Sunrise to Singapore: Powering tomorrow’s demands!
Sun Cable – the immense project that will lay a 4,500 km transmission line to send solar power from Australia to Singapore – is meant to start construction in 2024. This may amount to the ‘Mount Everest’ of what the electrification of the economy requires and involves a huge build out of the transmission and distribution grid to cope with increasing demand for electricity and variable renewable energy. To reach net-zero targets Bloomberg New Energy Finance predicts more than a doubling of current cable mileage will be needed.
